Campaign Story

* Typical cost of capstone projects (including registrations, travel and supplies) is about $1200.
* I am trying to raise $600 as family and school will cover the rest.

Goals for My Fundraiser:

Supporting my capstone project

*** I plan to pursue the project through participation in TSA activities like competitions and community service. ***

The Technology Student Association (TSA) is a national Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) that helps students explore STEM through hands-on projects, competitions, and leadership opportunities.

What is ‘Robotic Mediation and Advocacy’

Design an interactive robotic system that facilitates mediation and community dialogue, helping resolve disputes and enhance social justice processes. The project aims to create a tool that supports effective communication and consensus-building.

Components:

Conceptualize the robot’s role in mediation

develop user-friendly software

prototype the hardware

conduct trials with community groups

refine the system based on feedback

Why I am pursuing this project (My why)

  1. I am a ‘Adapter’ personality type person with strong ‘advocate’ business potential.
  2. I’m totally into creating cool tech stuff that can make a real difference in society. Right now, I’m working on a project to advance robotics, because I hope it can make things better for everyone. My dream? To one day use these skills to become a lawyer, fighting for justice and human rights.

My plan of action: Competitions and Activities

Career Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) to join:

TSA – Technology Student Association focuses on fostering innovation, leadership, and teamwork in technology projects. It provides resources and competitions that align with robotics and software development, making it a natural fit for the project.

FBLA – Future Business Leaders of America cultivates business acumen, leadership, and advocacy skills. Its emphasis on community engagement and strategic planning complements the student’s goal of combining technology with social justice.

Competitions

TSA – TSA Robotics

This introductory competition aligns well with the passion project by fostering hands-on robotics skills crucial for creating a mediation device. It builds technical proficiency in programming and mechanical design necessary for robotic mediation.

HOSA – HOSA Mental Health Promotion

This introductory competition focuses on fostering awareness and advocacy on community health issues. It complements the mediation aspect by encouraging the use of technology and messaging to promote mental health and conflict resolution.

FBLA – FBLA Business Plan

This advanced competition is ideal for translating technical innovation into viable business initiatives. It supports the advocacy component by challenging students to develop a comprehensive plan to market and implement a robotic mediation service.

TSA – TSA Engineering Design

As an advanced competition, this challenge pushes students to design and create a sophisticated prototype that merges engineering with social advocacy. It allows the integration of advanced sensor and control systems for effective mediation.

Community Service:

Mediation and Advocacy Community Workshop

Why it fits: This activity leverages skills gained from the competitions to address local community needs. It enables students to apply robotics, digital media, and business planning towards organizing conflict resolution workshops tailored for the community in zip code 30340.

Implementation: Plan and schedule a workshop in the spring semester where students facilitate sessions on conflict resolution and advocacy. Partner with local community centers, schools, and libraries to ensure participation and impact.

Skills Development: Leadership, public speaking, community engagement, event planning, conflict resolution
